I found this particular image to be very interesting in the sense that in today's day and age not too many people tend to go to the doctor. With the Internet being the major source of information now, and with its easy accessibility people feel like they are capable of figuring out what is wrong with them on their own. This photo shows just that, how before going to the doctor he went on the Internet and searched for his symptoms and came up with a diagnoses for himself.

The really sad part about it is that I have family members that will do exactly that instead of going to the doctor to begin with. They say that why should they waste their time and money sitting in a doctors office to only have the doctors tell or confirm what they already knew or figured out. They main problem with this issue is that although the Internet is a great source of information, it also holds a lot of incorrect and out of date information as well. Many people, especially older people who do not have the full research knowledge of how to make sure that what they are looking at is new or updated, tend to misdiagnose themselves. Once they have made the commitment to that self diagnoses the probability of them going to the doctor to get a second opinion (like in the photo) or at all is very slim. Some people just do not realize that although the Internet is there to help and educate, it can also put you and your health at risk.

Studies have shown that many of the people that do the self diagnoses and end up misdiagnosing themselves tend to do more harm to themselves than good. What I mean by saying that is that someone can come up with their problem and find the "cure" online, but when it is the wrong diagnoses and they try to treat it themselves, it could cause more problems. By the time that they do go to the doctor it is normally too late to stop the problem. ( This is just an example for the extreme cases)

I will have to say that I have not blogged in quite some time so this is going to take some getting use to again. I had to create this blog for one of my art classes back at UNCC, so I still have a few of my projects up here. Although im not sure if im looking forward to being back on facebook but I guess if it is dealing with my grade then I kind of have no choice. :-(
